About Jenny Hart
We are a full-day Christian Preschool committed to quality childcare in the community of Irvine. We are a ministry of Shepherd’s Grove Presbyterian Church, founded in 1985 in the memory of Jennifer Lynn Hart. (1978–1984) We are a play-based program, focusing on developing the whole child. We place a strong emphasis on social-emotional development through building relationships and brain development through sensory play and carefully designed learning centers. We offer a balance of teacher-directed and child-initiated activities in a full day of age-appropriate learning experiences.
Our program serves 97 children per day, ages 2 through Kindergarten. We are a year-round, full-day program. We do not offer half-day schedules. You may drop off and pick up your child between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, keeping in mind that our tuition rates are based on enrollment, not on attendance. We provide breakfast in the early morning as well as healthy morning and afternoon snacks. We provide milk with lunch. We do not offer a hot lunch program. Children will need to bring lunches from home.
We believe that children learn through a series of stages. The first stage of development is trust, which begins in infancy. We begin to establish trust through building relationships with children and families by promoting loving interactions in an emotionally enriched environment where children feel comfortable to grow and mature.
As a play-based program, we want to encourage the development of the whole child with a strong focus on social-emotional development. We work to provide children the tools necessary to become socially strong and emotionally secure. While we encourage continuous opportunities for sensory experiences, which is crucial for brain development, we also focus on fine motor skills to strengthen little hands to begin writing. Our small class sizes and very low teacher-child ratios allow for many learning opportunities including a language rich environment, STEM activities, creative expression, and large motor development.
In our Pre-Kindergarten program, we begin to incorporate developmentally appropriate academics to help prepare children for kindergarten such as lengthening attention span and learning to follow directions. Children are exposed to a variety of learning activities that encourage reading, writing, math, and science. With continued low ratios, the child’s social-emotional growth is still a focus
We also enhance each child’s unique spiritual growth by planting the seeds of faith through teaching the love of God on a daily basis in a loving, developmentally appropriate way.
Our dedicated family of teachers are fully qualified professionals in the field of Early Childhood Education. Many of our staff hold AA or BA degrees as well as Teacher Permit Credentials for the State of California. All of our staff is CPR/First Aid certified, renewing as a whole staff every two years. Our minimal teacher turnover allows for program stability and the growth of meaningful relationships, not only with the children but also with their families. As a close-knit family, we pride ourselves in knowing all of the children as well as having the children know all of our staff
